GreCon Spark Extinguishing System with New Ultrahigh-Speed Technology
2.12.2011
Reaction time of spark extinguishing system reduced by factor of up to 3
Alfeld/Hanover (Germany). GreCon has recently introduced its latest product development in the area of preventive fire protection at the trade show POWTECH in Nuremberg. The new fast extinguishing device "UHS" (ULTRAHIGH-SPEED) considerably reduces the reaction time of spark extinguishing systems. Consequently, also production processes, in which the use of this preventive fire and explosion protection technology has hardly been possible, can now be monitored. The extinguishing system, which also uses water as means of extinguishment, is designed in such a way that a compact valve-nozzle combination reduces the reaction time until the spreading of the water spray by up to 1/3. This is mainly achieved by a newly designed valve and by a new nozzle geometry.
For more than 30 years, GreCon spark extinguishing systems have been used in many different industries in which dust-like organic or also inorganic materials are exhausted or pneumatically, respectively mechanically, transported (by an elevator, for example). They serve to detect sparks, hot or glowing particles and other ignition sources in these conveying systems and to eliminate them before they can cause damage to filters or silos. Thus, production facilities which are equipped with GreCon spark extinguishing systems enjoy the advantage that fires or explosions do not occur.
The new UHS extinguishing technology does not replace the classic LS extinguishing devices (types LS 1 to 3), but completes the standard extinguishing devices when the reaction time (extinguishing distance) is insufficient. Thanks to the almost three times faster injection of the extinguishing water at the extinguishing position, the distance between spark detection and extinguishment can be reduced by a factor of up to 3. In many cases, the routeing of an exhaust duct can thus be optimised.
