TNO is developing biomarkers for health claim substantiation

Food products that support or improve digestive health, such as probiotics and prebiotics, can play an important role in our overall health and wellbeing. Leading Dutch research organization TNO, based in the cities of Zeist and Leiden, is investigating the effects of nutrition on weight management, the immune system and intestinal barrier function. New insights in these areas will facilitate health claim substantiation and assessment.

Beta-glucan, is a valuable biopolymer and currently on the tip of everyone’s tongue. Up to now barley was merely known as brewing addition but is now grown to increase the natural level of beta-glucan. Numerous clinical trials are confirming the various positive effects of beta-glucan to human health. SANACEL betaG, a barley fibre introduced by CFF GmbH & Co KG (ca. 25 % beta-glucan), captures the european market by nutritionally and technologically improving foods.
